KUALA LUMPUR – Umno must determine its political alliances ahead of the next general election, with the party needing clarity on whether Barisan Nasional (BN) will work with Pakatan Harapan (PH), Perikatan Nasional (PN) or contest solo.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the party’s grassroots were seeking clarity on the political “network” that BN would pursue.

“We want to know the real political network. Will BN be with PH? BN with PN? Or will BN move alone?

“My friends and I will face the president to get a decision,” he said during his winding-up speech at the 2026 Umno General Assembly.

However, Wan Rosdy stressed that while Umno might change its political direction and seek new avenues ahead of the election, the party must not sever the ties that bind its members to its core struggle.

“We must blue the whole of Malaysia. We can change direction and find new ways, but never sever the ties that bind us in our struggle,” he said.

He said Umno’s grassroots remained rooted in its struggle for the people and the nation, and these foundations must be strengthened ahead of the next general election.

“The grassroots are the struggle, the people and the nation. Those are the roots that we must strengthen.

“Ahead of the general election, change so that the tree of our struggle remains strong. Let us close ranks and ignite the Blue Wave. Not merely to return to power, but to lead,” he said.

Wan Rosdy said Umno had faced challenging periods before, but the party could continue to survive as long as its fighting spirit remained alive.

“At one point, we were challenged by the times. As long as the spirit of the fighters continues to burn, as long as we continue to fight on our homeland, Umno will continue to stand.

“Umno, all of Umno, we will fly the flag,” he said.

He then called on Umno members nationwide to unite behind the party.

Wan Rosdy’s remarks come as Umno continues to reposition itself ahead of the next general election, with the party leadership having stressed the need to rebuild grassroots support while determining the political partnerships that could shape BN’s electoral strategy.
