KUALA LUMPUR – Umno will not adopt a one-size-fits-all political approach across the country as the political landscape differs from one state to another, said its deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

Mohamad, who is fondly known as Tok Mat, said the party needed to diversify its approach according to the political circumstances in each state, with discussions at the state level to be brought to the party headquarters for consideration before any decisions were made.

“Let them have whatever discussions they want at the state level, whatever discussions they have, they need to bring them to the attention of the headquarters.

“When the time comes, the management at the headquarters will review whatever negotiations and discussions that have taken place. Because, as I mentioned in my speech, ‘there’s no one size fits all’.

“We want to diversify because the political situation in the country now is no longer uniform. So, we cannot use one formula that can be applied to all states,” he said.

Mohamad said this when met by the media at the Umno General Assembly (PAU) 2026 here today.

Commenting on calls for the 16th General Election (GE16) to be held sooner, he said the mood for an election usually began to emerge after a government had been in power for more than three years.

He said Umno, as a political party with an interest in the country's political affairs, also wanted to seek a fresh mandate from the people.

“Now it has been more than three years and usually the ‘mood’ to create an election atmosphere is always after three years. So whether it will be held or not is a necessity because political parties will always want to obtain a new mandate from the people.

“So Umno, as one of the political parties that also has an interest in the country's politics, wants to obtain a new mandate from the people or our voters, so that the people can ensure that they want the government they will choose later,” he said.
