KUALA LUMPUR – Umno will remain in the Unity Government until the end of its term, in line with a resolution passed at the party's General Assembly, said Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, said Umno would not challenge the position of any party, particularly Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, as the resolution adopted by the party must be respected.

“Our position is that we will not challenge anyone, especially the Prime Minister, because the resolution made at the Umno General Assembly must be respected.

“We will continue to remain together with the current Unity Government until the end of its term. We also do not know when the term will end,” he said at a press conference following the conclusion of the 2026 Umno General Assembly here on Saturday.

Zahid said differences of opinion must be respected, including views expressed by other parties.

However, he stressed that Umno leaders serving in the Cabinet would continue to discharge their responsibilities professionally.

“During our time in the government, there have indeed been differences of opinion, but we are members of the Cabinet and professional party leaders.

“We take the position that differences of opinion must be respected, and likewise, we respect the differences of opinion expressed by them,” he said.

Zahid's remarks came after several Umno leaders at the party's general assembly stressed the importance of the Malaysia Unity Government agreement and Umno's position within the coalition.

Despite differences with other parties in the administration, Zahid said Umno's participation in the government remained guided by the resolution adopted by the party.

The party's position, he said, was therefore to continue working within the Unity Government rather than challenge the administration or its leadership before the end of its term.
