UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh is to be charged for statements deemed disturbing public peace, according to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC).
He will be charged along with three other individuals, including Bersatu Youth chief Muhammad Hilman Idham.
The AGC said the decision to charge the two politicians was made after reviewing the investigation papers submitted by the police regarding statements made by Dr Akmal on the Facebook page 'Akmal Saleh' and Muhammad Hilman on the TikTok account 'alfah.channel.tv'.
The duo along with Siti Hajar Aflah Sharuddin are to be charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code.
A fourth individual, Chandrasegaran Subramaniam, is to be charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities or network services.
Meanwhile, in a post on his Facebook page, Akmal said he had been contacted by police and informed that he would be charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code this Friday.
"However, I am currently performing the umrah in Mecca.
"I will shorten my umrah and return to face the charge this Friday at the Bukit Mertajam magistrate's court at 8am," he said.
"If this is the price I must pay to uphold the sovereignty of the nation, I will not back down even an inch," he added. - August 20, 2025
