UMS, Euglena Malaysia collaborate on fish feed innovation

Kota Kinabalu: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has partnered Euglena Malaysia Sdn Bhd to develop sustainable aquaculture technologies aimed at improving food security and supporting the nation's blue economy.

UMS Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Prof Dr Rosalam Sarbatly said the collaboration through the Borneo Marine Research Institute (IMB) focuses on developing microalgae-based aquaculture feed technology to enhance the health, immunity and growth performance of cultured fish, while translating research into practical solutions for the industry.

He said the partnership combines UMS' expertise in aquaculture, fish physiology and immunology with Euglena Malaysia's experience in microalgae technology to produce industry-ready innovations that will strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of the aquaculture sector.

IMB Dean Associate Professor Dr Ching Fui Fui @ Faihana Ching Abdullah said the collaboration would deliver long-term benefits to the aquaculture industry, while Euglena Malaysia Research and Development Director Dr Taku Ogura said the research would lay the foundation for next-generation feed technologies for Malaysia and the wider Asian region.
