Among the services offered by philanthropist Kuan Chee Heng, affectionately known as Uncle Kentang, is a People’s Ambulance service that focuses on helping the underprivileged in getting medical assistance.

Before this, Uncle Kentang’s ambulances would often even travel to other parts of Malaysia, besides Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, to aid the underprivileged.

The subsidies are not enough

Unfortunately, Uncle Kentang has since taken to his Facebook page to announce that his ambulance service is limiting interstate and outstation trips due to the high costs of diesel.

He wrote, “We will reduce our outstation trips due to the high cost of diesel. We receive subsidised diesel, but it is never enough. We are short of almost 5,000 litres. Due to the recent hike in diesel prices, we have to reduce our outstation trips.”

“We hope all patients are well, and we regret our inability to cope with such an increase in fuel costs, and any inconveniences caused are certainly much regretted and unavoidable.”
