Hari Raya Aidilfitri is more than just a celebration. it is a time of reflection, gratitude, and, most importantly, togetherness. As a stroke survivor, I often reminisce about my past, especially the days when I owned a catering company. Back then, before the rise of Grab, Foodpanda, and other online food services, catering played a crucial role in Raya open houses. Families relied on catering to serve their guests, ensuring that everyone could enjoy delicious, home-cooked meals without the stress of cooking in bulk.
I miss those moments, the excitement of preparing large orders, the smell of rendang and satay filling the kitchen, and the satisfaction of seeing customers happy with the food. Raya back then felt different; there was a deeper sense of community. People would book catering services months in advance, trusting us to bring the festive spirit to their homes. It was not just about serving food; it was about creating an experience, ensuring that each dish carried the warmth and love of tradition.
I remember how busy we were in the days leading up to Raya- spending sleepless nights in the kitchen, making sure every dish was perfect. The joy of delivering trays of mouth watering dishes to excited customers made all the hard work worth it. Seeing families gather around the table, enjoying the food we had prepared, filled me with a deep sense of satisfaction. It was not just a business, it was a passion that connected me to the spirit of Hari Raya in a special way.
However, times have changed. With online ordering becoming more accessible, the demand for traditional catering has slowly declined. Now, anyone can order food with just a few taps on their phone. While it is convenient, I sometimes feel nostalgic for the old ways- when Raya gatherings were about home-cooked meals made with care, not just quick deliveries.
Despite the changes, the spirit of Hari Raya remains the same. It is still about togetherness, forgiveness, and cherishing every moment with loved ones.
