Unhealthy air spreads to eight areas as haze worsens

UNHEALTHY air quality has spread across eight areas in Selangor, Johor, Negri Sembilan and the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, with all affected locations recording Air Pollutant Index (API) readings above 100 this morning.

Johan Setia in Selangor recorded the highest reading at 154 as of 8am today, according to the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).

Johor recorded four locations in the unhealthy category, with Larkin and Pasir Gudang registering 153 each, followed by Batu Pahat at 152 and Segamat at 104.

Cheras in Kuala Lumpur recorded an API reading of 152, while Putrajaya recorded 151 and Nilai in Negri Sembilan 127.

The latest readings represent a deterioration in air quality across several parts of the country, although no location was in the very unhealthy or hazardous categories as of 8am.

Meanwhile, 59 areas recorded moderate air quality and one area recorded a good reading.

Under the API classification, readings of 0 to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are classified as hazardous. - October 5, 2026
