Bandi Bageerath, son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, surrendered before the Cyberabad police in a POCSO case after a look-out circular was issued against him and the Telangana High Court refused to grant him interim protection from arrest.

The Cyberabad police had issued the look-out circular against Bageerath in connection with a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, officials said on Saturday.

The development came amid mounting political pressure over the case, with Telangana Rakshana Sena president K Kavitha writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking the removal of Bandi Sanjay Kumar from the Union Cabinet to ensure what she described as a “free and fair investigation".

According to the police, the look-out circular was issued to prevent Bageerath from leaving the country while the investigation is underway.

In a setback to Bageerath, the Telangana High Court on Friday night declined to pass any interim order protecting him from arrest while hearing his anticipatory bail plea. His counsel had sought interim relief till final orders were passed on the petition.

The case was registered on May 8 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act on the basis of a complaint filed by the mother of a 17-year-old girl. The complainant alleged that Bageerath was in a relationship with her daughter and had sexually harassed her.
