The recent victory of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate in the Kuala Kubu Baharu state by-election serves as a testament to the solidarity among the component parties within the Unity Government. Despite the attempts by certain factions to exploit the UMNO-DAP (UMDAP) issue during the election, the coalition comprising Barisan Nasional (BN), PH, and other component parties has demonstrated resilience, serving as the cornerstone of the government's stability.
UMNO President, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, emphasized the importance of strengthening this coalition, highlighting the historical support provided by the DAP leadership to BN candidates in previous by-elections. He noted that reciprocating this support was essential, acknowledging the pivotal role played by the DAP candidate in the recent electoral success.
Speaking at a press conference following UMNO's 78th Anniversary celebration, Ahmad Zahid extended congratulations to the PH candidate and party for their victory. He also expressed gratitude to the BN, UMNO, and Kuala Kubu Baharu machinery, as well as supporters from across Selangor and beyond, for their efforts in securing the win.
The PH candidate, Pang Sock Tao, representing the Unity Government, clinched victory with a significant majority of 3,869 votes. Pang's triumph marked a decisive win over her three challengers: Khairul Azhari Saut from Perikatan Nasional, Nyau Ke Xin running as an independent candidate, and Hafizah Zainuddin representing Parti Rakyat Malaysia.
Pang secured a total of 14,000 votes, while Khairul Azhari garnered 10,131 votes, Nyau received 188 votes, and Hafizah obtained 152 votes. The substantial margin of victory underscores the electorate's confidence in the Unity Government and its ability to deliver on its promises.
The outcome of the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election reaffirms the strength and cohesion of the coalition government, despite external challenges and attempts to sow discord. Moving forward, the Unity Government remains committed to addressing the needs and aspirations of the people, guided by the principles of inclusivity and cooperation among its diverse member parties.
