SHAH ALAM - University of Wollongong Malaysia (UOW Malaysia) is bringing together students, industry leaders and food enthusiasts through its International Food Festival 2026 today, using the event as a platform to promote cross-cultural learning and strengthen industry collaboration.
Beyond showcasing international cuisine, the event provides students with hands-on industry experience, allowing them to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world environment alongside hospitality and communications professionals.
Head of the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts (SHTCA), Dr Aliya Marnina Amirudin said the festival was designed to foster collaboration across faculties while strengthening ties between academia and industry.
She said the initiative also aims to inspire secondary school students by exposing them to careers in hospitality, tourism, culinary arts and communications through immersive learning experiences.
Head of the School of Communication and Creative Arts (SCCA), Lee Chong Hang said an international university ecosystem plays a critical role in preparing graduates for an increasingly interconnected workforce.
"A transformative education is shaped not only by what students learn in the classroom, but also by the environment they are part of. As an international university, our students work alongside peers from different cultures and countries," he told Sinar Daily.
"They learn firsthand how to collaborate across cultures, exchange ideas without limitations and develop a global mindset before entering the industry,"
Held at the university's Glenmarie campus from 9am to 4pm, the festival is jointly organised by the SHTCA and SCCA.
