Up to Anwar if he wants to reshuffle cabinet: Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR – A cabinet reshuffle is the sole prerogative of the prime minister, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today in response to rumours of such a move.

He also appeared to deny having any knowledge of such plans, adding that it would be “unusual for a prime minister to discuss cabinet reshuffles in cabinet meetings,” Bernama reported him saying after officiating the National Training Week 2023 event in Putrajaya today.

He was asked to comment on media reports of a possible cabinet reshuffle after the six state elections due to be held in a few months.

Free Malaysia Today recently reported a source from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s party, PKR, saying that Anwar would likely reshuffle his cabinet after the state polls.

Elections are to be held in Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, and Penang, which did not dissolve their legislative assemblies simultaneously with Parliament and other states for the 15th general elections last November. – The Vibes, May 27, 2023
