[UPDATED] Father, daughter killed after container crushes car in Sepangar

Kota Kinabalu: A 53-year-old man and his 24-year-old daughter were killed after a lorry trailer and container overturned and crushed their Toyota Avanza near Wisma Sabah Ports along Jalan Sepangar on Sunday evening.

According to witness accounts cited by authorities, the trailer had been lifting a container by the roadside onto the vehicle when an imbalance caused it to overturn onto the passing car.

Fire and Rescue Department personnel arrived at the scene at 7.01pm following a 6.31pm distress call, initiating rescue efforts to extricate the trapped victims.

Operations were initially delayed pending the arrival of two haulage company cranes, which reached the site at 9.21pm to lift the container off the crushed vehicle.

Medical officers from the Health Ministry confirmed both victims dead at the scene once they were freed using specialised rescue equipment, with the bodies subsequently handed over to the police for further action.
