KINABATANGAN: A stroke patient being transferred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu was killed after the ambulance he was in collided head-on with a passenger van along a road near Kampung Paris 1 here on Monday morning.

District Police Chief Supt Ravi Duraisamy said the accident happened at about 9.40am when the ambulance from Lahad Datu was carrying the patient, a doctor, a nurse, and a second driver.

Preliminary investigations found that the Foton View van carrying seven passengers had veered into the opposite lane along a bend before crashing into the ambulance.

The patient died at the scene, confirmed by the attending doctor, while both drivers and 10 others sustained injuries and were taken to Kinabatangan Hospital’s Green Zone for treatment.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
