The 11th convocation ceremony of Central University of Punjab in Bathinda was virtually graced by Chief Justice of India (CJI), Justice Surya Kant, on Saturday, during which 981 postgraduate and 92 PhD degrees were conferred, while 44 gold medals were awarded to meritorious students.

The CJI also virtually inaugurated the university’s central library building, constructed at a cost of Rs 14.40 crore.

Addressing the gathering virtually, the CJI congratulated the graduating students and described the convocation as a celebration of academic excellence and nation-building. He urged students to uphold constitutional values, integrity and compassion in the rapidly evolving digital era.

Guests of honour included Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Sheel Nagu, and Justice Sandeep Moudgil, while special guest Justice Ramesh Chander Dimri also attended the ceremony virtually.

Vice-Chancellor Raghavendra P Tiwari highlighted the university’s achievements in academics, research, innovation and infrastructure development.

Distinguished guests at the ceremony included IIT Ropar, Director, Rajeev Ahuja and AIIMS, Bathinda, Executive Director, Prof (Dr) Ratan Gupta. Chancellor Prof Jagbir Singh delivered the presidential address during the ceremony.

Students attended the ceremony in traditional white khadi attire, with male students wearing kurta-pajamas and female students dressed in sarees or salwar-kameez. Faculty members wore traditional Phulkari stoles.
