KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal’s use of the term ‘kafir’ has sparked unease and drawn calls for accountability.
The matter is seen as sensitive given Sabah’s diverse religious and cultural communities, which have long coexisted in relative harmony.
Upko Treasurer-General Dennison R Indang (pic) said conflicting responses from Warisan leaders over the remark have created confusion among the public.
He noted that the controversy has been compounded by Warisan’s shifting positions on other issues, such as the 40 per cent revenue lawsuit, which he said reflected inconsistency in its stance.
Dennison stressed that leaders must take responsibility for their words, warning that ignoring calls for an apology risks prolonging tensions and undermining mutual respect in Sabah’s multiracial society.
