Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Police Contingent (IPK Sabah) needs to fill 70 marine police positions as the said branch acts as a frontline directly involved in safeguarding the State’s borders.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Idris Abdullah said the urgent vacancies all over Sabah are for nine officers and 61 personnel.

“Meanwhile, based on a recent senior police review of the Sabah contingent, there are 30 vacancies for two Deputy Superintendents (DSP), 12 Assistant Superintendents (ASP) and 16 Inspectors.

“We hope these vacancies are filled as soon as possible to ensure the security of the State. We do not want this lack of manpower to affect police services,” he said.

Idris was speaking at a rank promotion and IPK Sabah senior officers exchange ceremony, in Kepayan, Friday.

Tawau Deputy Police Chief Supt Nor Azizulkifli Mansor has become the new Selangor Deputy Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Chief, while IPK Sabah Administrative Officer DSP Rohana Nanu is the new Belaga (Sarawak) Police Chief.

City Deputy Police Chief George Rakman was promoted to ACP, while Sipitang Police Chief, Champin Piuh, was promoted to Supt.

Meanwhile, 25 cops were promoted from ASP to DSP. Nineteen are from IPK Sabah, including two each from the Malaysian Police Training Centre and the Air Wing Unit, and three from marine police branches.
