One of several World Cup fan festivals across the United States has decided to close early due to heavy public costs.
Major cities across the United States have been hosting fan festivals, with the bulk of the World Cup action played on American soil.
There was even one in Chicago, which is not hosting any games during the tournament.
Fans can watch World Cup games at these events, while there are transport links to stadiums in some cases such as in Dallas.
However, the event in Boston has been closed relatively early.
Boston World Cup Fan Festival closed
As per Adam Crafton of The Athletic, the fan festival in Boston has been closed at a relatively early stage of the tournament.
That is despite the Boston Stadium (otherwise known as the Gillette Stadium) in Foxborough, Massachusetts still having two matches left to host.
One of the World Cup quarter-finals will be held there, after Germany and Paraguay meet in the last 32.
However, the FIFA Fan Festival has been stopped before either of those matches take place.
The event was held at City Hall Plaza, which is in Boston’s civic front yard.
Crafton adds that Boston is one of several host cities which did not meet FIFA’s original requirement of hosting the official event for every day of the tournament.
Boston has proven itself to be a brilliant host city during the World Cup.
Scotland fans poured in their thousands to party in the city, while fans of England, France and Norway are among those who have been able to enjoy the delights of the city.
Thousands of German and Paraguayan supporters will descend on the city of Boston on Monday to watch their interesting round of 32 clash but they will not have a fan festival to enjoy before the match.
