Novak Djokovic extended his dominance over Taylor Fritz to 11 wins without defeat as the 38-year-old booked his place in a 14th US Open semi-final and a date with Carlos Alcaraz on Friday.
Djokovic, bidding for a record 25th grand slam title, saved 10 of the first 11 break points he faced and defied the American fourth seed in the biggest moments as he marched into a two-set.
Fritz, who reached last year’s US Open final, rallied to force a fourth set, but then crumbled when attempting to serve to stay in the match. After saving two match points, the American double-faulted as Djokovic escaped with a 6-4 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win.
Earlier, Aryna Sabalenka advanced to the semi-finals without hitting a ball as Marketa Vondrousova withdraw due to injury. Defending champion Sabalenka will play Jessica Pegula in a rematch of last year’s US Open final.
And Venus Williams’ run alongside Leylah Fernandez in the women’s doubles is over. Williams and Fernandez were comfortably beaten by top seeds Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova.

Venus Williams believes she still has a future competing in singles after return to the US Open came to an end with defeat in the quarter-finals of the doubles with Leylah Fernandez.
“I think out there Leylah and I, we kept telling each other to be the best singles player we could be,” Williams said. “So our focus will always be singles. I'm not going to suddenly become a doubles player. I never did, I never will. It's the singles for me.
“I think after this tournament I can really see where I want to improve, what I can work on. I think that it's all great feedback. But also, I had a lot of chances to play a lot of matches here, which is what I would desperately need to get better.”

Not after exiting the US Open at the quarter-final stage, continuing the drought for American men in the men’s singles, or after double-faulting on the third match point and handing Djokovic an escape from an even later night.
