Manchester United had scouts posted to watch Lyon striker Moussa Dembele on Sunday night.
They dispatched staff to take in Lyon's game against Saint-Etienne and saw the former Celtic man left out of the starting line-up by under pressure manager Sylvinho, who has frequently rotated his forward line this season, says the Daily Mail.
Dembele did come on in the second-half and managed to hit Lyon's only shot on target of the game.
There's a risk for Lyon that United would have the encouragement to push for a cut-price offer in January if they move for Dembele with him dipping in and out of the side.
This despite the 23-year-old being just one goal behind Ligue 1's current top scorer Victor Osimhen.
