Tyler Adams had a near-perfect New York sports weekend, captaining the USMNT to a World Cup win before watching his Knicks end a 53-year NBA title drought.

The midfielder’s love for the Knicks has been one of the best side stories around the United States camp, and the timing could not have been better.

One night after the USMNT beat Paraguay 4-1, Adams’ Knicks finished the NBA Finals with the same series score.

Tyler Adams celebrates Knicks title after USMNT World Cup win

As USMNT posted, it was a perfect 4-1 double: “4-1 FIFA World Cup win on Friday. 4-1 NBA Finals series win for Tyler Adams’ @nyknicks on Saturday.”

The post captured why the moment felt so personal. Adams is a New York native and a diehard Knicks fan, so the championship was not just another result he watched from inside a tournament camp.

Earlier in the Finals, Adams had already gone viral for his wild reaction to the Knicks’ comeback win over the Spurs. He celebrated with USMNT teammates, jumping and losing himself in the kind of chaos only a lifelong fan understands.

By Saturday night, the payoff was complete. New York beat San Antonio 94-90 in Game 5, winning the series 4-1 and claiming its first NBA Championship since 1973.

Adams anchors USA before Brunson leads Knicks to glory

Adams had already done his own job for the USMNT.

He played the full 90 minutes in the 4-1 win over Paraguay, captaining the side and controlling midfield with a highly efficient performance.

Adams completed 52 of 54 passes, won three tackles, and made five clearances, giving the United States the kind of stability that allowed the attack to shine.

The Knicks then followed that with their own statement. Jalen Brunson scored 45 points in Game 5, including massive fourth-quarter baskets, as New York survived Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs.

One 4-1 win pushed the USMNT into its World Cup campaign with confidence. The other gave Adams the title celebration he had waited his whole life to see.
