Kota Kinabalu: The United Sabah National Organisation (Usno) wants to contest the Pintasan state seat in Kota Belud.
Its president Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia said he wants to contest the seat, which is held by incumbent Datuk Fairuz Renddan of Gagasan Rakyat.
“I want to contest because I feel like I can still do it,” he said after the launch of a book on his works and career here on Sunday (Oct 26).
“But seriously, yes, I would like to contest in Pintasan,” he said, acknowledging it would be a tough decision for the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah coalition as Fairuz wants to defend the seat on his merits.
Pandikar said that although he agreed Fairuz has done a good job as assemblyman, it is also GRS’ duty to ensure leaders in the coalition get to contest.
“If not, what is the purpose of GRS,” he asked.
He said with seat allocations still pending and not finalised, he cannot say how many seats Usno wishes to contest, but Usno must be allowed to contest.
Other parties in GRS are Parti Bersatu Sabah led by Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Joachim Gunsalam, Parti Cinta Sabah led by former foreign minister Tan Sri Anifah Aman, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah led by Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah and the Liberal Democratic Party led by Datuk Chin Su Phin.
