THE University of Santo Tomas (UST) is safe after the Philippine National Police (PNP) found no bomb on campus, school officials said on Friday.
In a statement, the university confirmed the police finding in an advisory posted on its Facebook page, following the evacuation of its students after bomb threats were found in the restrooms of the St. Martin de Porres Building, which houses the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.
“At 8:54 p.m., authorities from the Philippine National Police declared the campus safe for occupancy, following a thorough inspection and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Paneling, which did not find any bombs in our facilities,” the university said.
“The University is grateful to our security team and the PNP for their swift action, and to our stakeholders for their cooperation... The University once again asks those with information regarding this threat to come forward so proper measures can be taken against the perpetrators of this act,” it added.
Students were evacuated from the university on Friday following the bomb threat, which resulted in the shift to an enhanced virtual mode of instruction for students, and offices having remote work arrangements on Saturday.
UST is the latest school hit by a bomb scare.
Other Metro Manila campuses that received bomb threats were the University of the East in Manila on Oct. 20; the University of the Philippines in Diliman on Oct. 15; campuses of the Far Eastern University in Manila and Muntinlupa on Sept. 23 and 25; and the Centro Escolar University in Manila on Feb. 3.
