Former national player V. Selvam, of the Duta International Tennis Academy, has welcomed Malaysia Stadium Corporation’s (MSC) decision to maintain the National Tennis Centre exclusively for tennis.
He hopes this means the academy will be allowed to continue operating at the venue.
Earlier today, MSC announced that the National Tennis Centre in Jalan Duta will remain the country’s main tennis hub and dismissed any plans to convert the facility into courts for pickleball or padel.
In its statement, MSC said the centre would continue its role in national tennis development and pledged to strengthen the tennis ecosystem by collaborating with the Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia (LTAM) and Duta International Tennis Academy.
Last month, Selvam revealed that MSC had issued a letter informing him that his contract would expire in December and would not be renewed, without any explanation.
MSC’s latest press release mentions plans to work with Selvam’s academy through bulk booking arrangements beginning in January 2026.
“We just received the press release as well. Give me time to get the details,” said Selvam, who was nevertheless delighted that the National Tennis Centre would remain exclusive to the sport.
The upgrade of the National Tennis Centre aligns with MSC’s vision to provide international-standard facilities that support the development of local athletes, attract world-class tournaments, and enhance Malaysia’s reputation as a regional sports destination.
The National Tennis Centre has previously hosted international tournaments such as the Davis Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup 2025, with support from the Youth and Sports Ministry through the Sports Matching Grant.
In response to growing demand, MSC will carry out upgrade works, including court repairs, fencing, improved support facilities, and the installation of new floodlights. The facilities will remain open to the public through the online booking system, Courtsite.
