RANAU: Six Korean tourists and a tourist van driver were injured in a collision with a lorry, near here, Thursday.

Ranau Fire and Rescue Station Chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said five personnel were deployed to the scene following the 10.30am incident at Batu 4, Jalan Kibbas Ranau.

He said the tourists suffered minor injuries while the local driver was seriously injured and trapped in the vehicle. Korean tourists were slightly injured and shocked following the incident.

“Our personnel managed to extricate the driver, who suffered a broken leg, using special equipment before he was sent to the hospital in an ambulance,” he said, adding the operation ended at 11.19am. Ridwan reminded all motorists in the district to be extra careful, especially when plying on slippery and potholes-filled roads.

He said the unpredictable weather could also cause visibility and road surface problems.

“Please reduce your driving speed and be extra careful.”
