MANILA, Philippines — While Vanie Gandler did not make the final 12-woman roster for Alas Pilipinas in the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, she threw her full support behind the national team.
reached historic bronze finishes in the AVC Challenge Cup and two SEA V.League legs last year, expressed confidence that the current squad can deliver a strong performance on the continental stage.
“I'm very confident that the team that is playing in the Asian Games will give their all. We know these players; they really work as one to give our best,” Gandler said.
“I know that they can make it to the next round, and I'm really just wishing them the best. I miss them so much, and I'm excited to watch them from the Philippines.” Alas Pilipinas opens its campaign against defending champion China on Wednesday at the Okazaki Central Park General Stadium in Okazaki.
The national squad will be led by decorated veteran setter Jia De Guzman, with Mars Alba backing her up in playmaking duties. Justine Jazareno serves as the sole libero, while Nina Ytang, Thea Gagate, Dell Palomata, and Amie Provido hold down the middle blocker positions.
The team’s wing rotation features Eya Laure, Bella Belen, Angel Canino, Shaina Nitura, and Alyssa Solomon.
“We will do our very best against China,” Belen said during the team's flight from Manila.
The Philippines is bracketed in Pool B alongside China and Kazakhstan. Host Japan, Indonesia, and Nepal make up Pool A, while Pool C features Thailand, Chinese Taipei, and Kyrgyzstan. Pool D consists of Vietnam, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Qatar.
