Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur says he has a very good relationship with CEO Benedetto Vigna and chairman John Elkann amid scrutiny over his leadership.

FERRARI team principal Fred Vasseur said he has a good working relationship with the Italian outfit’s top management amid scrutiny over his leadership.

Vasseur, who maintains a strong relationship with Ferrari chief executive officer Benedetto Vigna and executive chairman John Elkann, said he was satisfied with the support he received from the team’s senior management.

“Honestly, the relationship that I have with my bosses, Benedetto and John, is a very good one. We are in daily contact, and I can’t complain at all about the organisation,” he told a press conference during the Formula 1 (F1) Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix (GP) in Malaysia 2026 at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) here today.

He responded to questions about whether Ferrari’s leadership structure needed review after seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton backed the Frenchman but suggested the wider management structure might need attention.

Hamilton described Vasseur as a fantastic leader and the right person to take Ferrari forward, while stressing the importance of stability and everyone working towards the same goal.

Vasseur, meanwhile, stressed that Ferrari’s progress depended on collective effort rather than singling out individuals, adding that continuous improvement was part of the team’s DNA.

The 58-year-old also acknowledged that Ferrari had struggled in recent races but remained hopeful that development work would help the team regain its pace.

He also said he was not surprised by the scrutiny that came with his role, although he felt some of the criticism had become personal.

“What is sometimes a bit unfair is when you put someone under the bus, and I’m there also to defend my team, my guys. As I said before, when we are winning, we are winning as a team, but when we are struggling, I’m there to defend all of them,” he said.

Ferrari’s leadership has come under increased scrutiny amid speculation over Vasseur’s future, which intensified after former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said leading the Italian team would be his dream job.

Ferrari had earlier publicly reaffirmed its confidence in Vasseur, who has been team principal since 2023.

The Bahrain GP is being held at SIC from Oct 2 to 4 after the original race in Bahrain was cancelled earlier this season due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
