Two lorries and a rickshaw plunged into the river below, according to Vadodara’s chief fire officer. Rescue teams pulled at least five people to safety.

Footage from the scene showed a tanker left teetering near the broken edge of the bridge, which was built in 1985.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the accident “deeply saddening” and expressed condolences to the victims’ families.

India has faced repeated infrastructure failures, with one of the worst incidents in 2022, when a bridge collapse in Gujarat killed over 130 people.
