MANILA, Philippines -- Philippine entertainment icon and Far Eastern University alumnus Jose Marie Borja Viceral or simply “Vice Ganda” rocked the UAAP Season 89 opening ceremony with the “Super Unkaboga-Bowl” performance at the Mall of Asia Arena Saturday.
In front of a capacity crowd, Vice Ganda began the star-studded production riding on a light-up Tamaraw float that entered the floor as he performed the “rainy season”.
The celebrity host also performed with Baby Dolls, Echarri, Maki, Darren Espanto, as well as Bini members Mika and Maloy.
Vice Ganda took a moment to share his humble beginnings at FEU, this season's host, before singing the “All I do is a win” to cap off the opening ceremony that literally turned to his concert.
The opening ceremony started with a teaser video showcasing the campuses of the eight member schools.
After the introduction of the UAAP Board of Managing Directors, the parade of athletes ensued including those of Ateneo de Manila University.
Following an offseason marred by the tragic deaths of Ateneo men's basketball team members Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili, the Blue Eagles representatives stood strong and ready for this season's battles.
FEU president Juan Miguel Montinola declared the games open.
Setting up the main event, rap icon “Gloc-9” electrified the stage by performing some of his hit songs: "Upuan", "Simpleng Tao", "Wag Kang Matakot Sumayaw", "Sirena", and "Bagsakan" which he collaborated with the late rap legend Francis Magalona and Chito Miranda.
With the FEU Cheering Squad, Gloc-9 then performed this season’s theme song “Dito sa amin”
