Vico: New city hall, hospital, flood projects due in 6–12 months

MANILA, Philippines — Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto on Thursday said the city can expect major developments in the next six to 12 months, including the completion of the new city hall, the reopening of an upgraded public hospital, and the rollout of the city’s flood control master plan.

In his Araw ng Pasig (Pasig day) message, Sotto outlined 10 key projects that he said are expected to move forward in the near future as part of the city’s continuing efforts to improve public services, infrastructure and urban planning.

Among the biggest milestones is the completion of the new Pasig City Hall, along with the opening of new public spaces surrounding the government complex, including a one-hectare public plaza.

Sotto also said the upgraded Pasig Hope Medical Center, formerly the Children’s Hospital, is expected to fully reopen after completing its licensing process to become a general hospital, allowing it to provide more services for Pasigueños.

The city also plans to expand and improve the emergency room of Pasig City General Hospital.

To strengthen disaster preparedness, the city is expected to begin implementing its local flood control and drainage master plan after completing its final draft, shifting from isolated flood mitigation projects to a comprehensive citywide approach.

A new command center is also set to be inaugurated to enhance disaster response, peace and order, and sanitation operations.

For housing, Sotto said the Santolan Tawiran Housing project for families displaced by the revetment wall is nearing completion, while the township master plan for the former Nascor property is expected to be finalized to pave the way for a long-term relocation program for residents living in danger zones.

The mayor also announced plans to introduce a new business permit and licensing system, which he said is targeted to go online by mid-2027 after initial efforts to launch it earlier.

Residents can also expect new civic spaces and parks, including a park in Bambang, linear parks along the river, and a new civic center and village hall in San Joaquin.

Sotto said the city is likewise working with the Department of Transportation and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board on proposed developmental routes aimed at improving public transport and easing commuters’ travel.

He added that Pasig is also set to complete its first cadastral survey and mapping project, which will support urban planning and help resolve village and inter-city boundary disputes.

“Straight ahead, Pasigueños, toward better governance and inclusive development,” Sotto said.
