THE victim who was injured after she was hit by building material which crashed through her house roof in Bukit Damansara yesterday has called for stern action to be taken against those responsible and for the nearby condominium project to be halted.
She said she was in her room when a granite tile crashed through her roof about 5.55pm.
"I suffered injuries to my face and am lucky to be alive. We, the residents had protested the neighbouring project but Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) insisted that it be allowed to proceed," she said.
Following the mishap, DBKL issued a stop-work order through its Department of Building Control, on the Cedar condominium project in Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur.
In a statement, DBKL said the stop-work order will remain in effect until the contractor completes repairs to the affected house with the owner's consent.
“The contractor must also bear the medical treatment costs of the injured victim and improve the safety platform at the boundary between The Cedar development and the neighbouring residence,” the statement said, citing Section 87 of the Streets, Drainage and Building Act 1974.
Preliminary reports said the incident occurred when granite tiles, measuring 600mm by 800mm and being lifted by a tower crane, struck a barrier on the third floor.
“The impact caused several tiles to fall onto the safety platform and be flung towards a house located at Jalan Setiakasih 6, Bukit Damansara,” DBKL said.
DBKL said the contractor responded immediately by clearing debris and repairing the damage.
The project involves constructing a seven-storey luxury apartment block with 70 residential units, a main lobby and resident facilities on the ground floor.
The building plans were approved on April 28, 2021, with construction now 75 to 80 per cent complete, mainly involving architectural, mechanical and electrical works.
In a TikTok video, @nadiahraha, said she was almost killed in the incident.
According to the victim's brother, Shaik Azrul Shaik Daud, 52, his sister could have been seriously injured if she was gone to sleep a second later.
He said his sister sustained injuries to her nose and head.
Also at the house during the incident were his 89-year-old father, 79-year-old mother, his daughter and a maid.
He said the damages were estimated to be around RM200,000 and include the porch awning, a room on the ground-floor and toilet, while a room and master bedroom toilet were also damaged on the first floor.
He said he was at his office in Damansara Perdana when his daughter called and informed him of the incident. – August 16, 2025
