KOTA BHARU - The Malaysian International Humanitarian Organisation (MHO) has urged the Kelantan Deputy Public Prosecutor’s Office to take urgent action against a cooperative suspected of offering non-existent investment schemes, which have resulted in losses of over RM2.27 million for 26 individuals.

MHO secretary-general Datuk Hishamuddin Hashim said that the victims, comprising senior citizens, retirees and civil servants, are burdened by the hardship of losing their savings.

"The victims came to the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s Office today to appeal for the consideration and discretion of the state Prosecution director to prosecute those responsible without delay," he said at a media conference here today.

Hishamuddin said the cooperative allegedly issued unsecured loans to several companies tasked to organise various programmes under its supervision.

He said the victims also claimed that these companies, which were supposedly managing the investment programmes, were set up to mislead cooperative members, as the investment schemes were never carried out.

"The victims also suspect that the 10 types of investment programme organised by the companies that the cooperative appointed were part of a well-orchestrated involving various individuals hiding behind the cooperative and private limited companies.

"MHO represents the earnest hopes of the victims that the complaints submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s Office will receive a positive response," he added. - BERNAMA
