Every performance from Victor Wembanyama continues to fuel discussion about his long-term NBA potential.

The San Antonio Spurs star is already redefining expectations for young big men across the league.

His unique blend of size, skill and composure has set a new benchmark. Even early in his career, the Frenchman has shown an ability to influence games in multiple areas.

And the attention he draws does not fade when he is off the court.

Speaking on ESPN’s Get Up this Thursday, sports analyst Michael Wilbon outlined the qualities that separate Wembanyama from other NBA stars. His assessment focused on mentality as much as physical ability.

Wilbon said: “He reminds me of three people, none of whom are bigs. There are elements, that anger for losing, that is [Michael] Jordan and [Larry] Bird, right?

“There’s a joy that reminds me of Magic [Johnson], and the ability to lead at a young age, where people are afraid on his team to not follow him.

“Who has that? All of those things, just the makeup as much as the athleticism and the ball handling, the shooting, the free throws.”

Shaquille O’Neal backs Wemby’s all-around impact

Shaquille O’Neal has also pointed to Wembanyama’s influence following San Antonio’s series win over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Speaking on Inside the NBA, he praised the young star’s complete skill set and team-first approach.

O’Neal said: “I think Wemby is the first perfect big man that’s ever been created. He can shoot, free throws, play defense, play offense, and he’s a great team player.”

Those comments reflect growing expectations around the league for Wembanyama’s rapid development, as he is setting unprecedented standards even as a youngster.
