Victoria Beckham says she and David have always tried to protect their children, responding to son Brooklyn’s social media attack on the family.
NEW YORK: Victoria Beckham has defended her parenting, months after her eldest son Brooklyn launched a public attack on his famous parents.
In a new interview, the former Spice Girl said she and husband David Beckham have always sought to “protect” their children.
“We’ve been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we’ve ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children,” she told the Wall Street Journal.
Victoria described parenting adult children as “very different from having little children”.
She added that they are “trying to do the best we can” and have “always tried to be the best parents that we can be.”
Her comments follow an explosive social media rant from 27-year-old Brooklyn in January.
He alleged his parents tried to “ruin” his relationship with his wife, actress Nicola Peltz Beckham.
Brooklyn also claimed they attempted to “bribe me into signing away the rights to my name” before his 2022 wedding.
“Since the moment I started standing up for myself with my family, I’ve received endless attacks from my parents,” he wrote in the post.
The criticism made front-page news in UK tabloids.
David Beckham has not directly addressed the family tensions.
When asked generally about children using social media, he told CNBC that parents should let children “make mistakes.”
