Cabinet Minister Anil Vij inaugurates stone pitching work in Ambala Cantonment on Sunday.

Haryana Cabinet Minister Anil Vij inaugurated the stone pitching work to strengthen the Tangri river embankment in Ambala Cantonment on Sunday. The minister also laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the Mahesh Nagar Pump House building.

Addressing the gathering, Vij said, “Today, the stone pitching work from Babyal to Ramgarh Majra along the Tangri river embankment is being initiated, while tenders have already been floated for the stone pitching work from Ramgarh Majra to the Punjab border. Stone pitching from Babyal to the Punjab border will be carried out at a total cost of approximately Rs 7.34 crore. The Mahesh Nagar Pump House project will cost around Rs 2.80 crore.”

The minister highlighted ongoing efforts to protect Ambala Cantonment from floods. He noted that last year, the Tangri river recorded a flow of 43,000 cusecs, affecting the opposite side of the industrial area. He added, “Excavation work on the Tangri river was initiated, but some anti-development elements in Ambala Cantonment did not allow the river to be deepened.”

Vij stated that the Tangri river has been deepened from Ramgarh Majra to the Saharanpur railway line, while excavation from the Saharanpur railway line to the Delhi railway line is still pending. Tenders have been floated for excavation from Shahpur to Durana, but the work has been stalled for the past month due to obstructions by some individuals.

He also alleged that a boundary wall is being constructed around the industrial area, but certain mischievous elements are attempting to disrupt the work.

Vij asserted, “Those who create hurdles in development works will not be spared. My name is Anil Vij, and all of Haryana knows that I do not spare troublemakers.” He emphasised that the boundary wall must be constructed under all circumstances, as thousands of people in the city depend on employment from the industrial area, which is also a symbol of the city’s development. He noted that goods worth crores of rupees were damaged due to flooding last year, making the wall necessary to prevent future losses.

The minister accused the previous governments of “doing nothing” to protect Ambala Cantonment from floods. Upon taking office, he initiated the first major project—constructing a permanent road on the Tangri embankment from Ramgarh Majra to Ghasitpur, which now serves as a vital route for public movement.
