BELURAN: Police are investigating a report concerning an alleged dangerous driving incident involving an express bus that went viral on Facebook.
Beluran District Police Chief Supt Hasan Majid said the incident was believed to have occurred at about 11.30pm on Aug 20 along Jalan Ranau-Telupid, involving an express bus operated by a public transport company.
He said the bus was allegedly driven dangerously while overtaking another vehicle, causing the other driver to move onto the road shoulder to avoid a collision.
The express bus was driven by a 62-year-old local man, while the other vehicle, a Toyota single-cab, was driven by a 34-year-old local man.
No one was injured in the incident, while initial checks found no damage to either vehicle.
Hasan said preliminary checks also found that both vehicles had valid road tax and insurance coverage.
“The case is being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving, an offence for which an arrest can be made without a warrant,” he said in a statement here on Sunday.
He advised the public, particularly road users, to comply with traffic regulations and practise responsible driving, while avoiding dangerous overtaking manoeuvres that could endanger other road users.
