JKM clarifies that an individual seen in a viral Kulai video was at the welfare office for a court-ordered interview, not as claimed on social media.
PUTRAJAYA: The Social Welfare Department (JKM) today clarified that an individual seen with their children at the Kulai District Social Welfare Office (PKMD) was there for an interview to prepare a court-ordered report, contrary to claims made in a viral social media video.
JKM in a statement said the clarification followed checks and information received from PKMD Kulai regarding the video circulating on social media.
According to the department, the individual attended an interview with JKM officers for the purpose of preparing a report as directed by the court.
“JKM takes seriously the dissemination of inaccurate or incomplete information, as this can cause misunderstandings and create inaccurate perceptions of the Department and officers carrying out their official duties,” the department said in a statement.
The department said it remained committed to ensuring that all actions taken by its officers were carried out professionally and with integrity, in accordance with their responsibilities, applicable laws and procedures.
JKM also advised the public against drawing conclusions based on unverified social media content or resharing information that could mislead the public and affect those involved.
The public was also encouraged to seek clarification from official sources if they had questions regarding JKM services or actions.
The video, which went viral on Threads, questioned the presence of a ‘R national’ (Myanmar refugee) at JKM seeking assistance and how this was allowed, given that they were under the supervision of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
