Police confirm three viral videos of a man chasing foreign children in Kampung Losong Masjid are old footage filmed in 2024, not recent incidents.
KUALA TERENGGANU: Three viral videos depicting a man taunting and pursuing foreign children in Kampung Losong Masjid are old footage, police confirmed.
Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin said the videos were filmed between March 28 and Dec 25, 2024, and uploaded to TikTok merely as social media content.
The individual has been identified by the police, who confirmed the man chased the children for allegedly tampering with his equipment and boat at the Losong Masjid boat jetty.
“Initial investigations show a man claimed the two foreign children residing in Kampung Losong Masjid frequently played near the jetty and interfered with his boat and equipment.
“The man’s intention in teasing and chasing the children was simply to get them to leave the jetty, but a friend recorded the incident and uploaded it to TikTok,” he stated in a statement today.
Mohd Khairi said the individual never anticipated the footage would go viral and spark such intense public backlash and criticism.
The individual has been warned against repeating the act, while members of the public are urged to use social media responsibly and within the law to prevent slander and public unrest, the police chief added.
Misuse of social media can lead to an investigation under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, he said, noting that offenders face a fine of up to RM50,000, one year in prison, or both.
