Amid the remains of a villa near Pompeii, a hard-hatted conservationist scrapes away centuries-old ash to reveal a red fresco. For the first time, visitors will be able to see the renovations at Villa Poppaea, a pleasure palace of Ancient Rome destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD.
