Introducing vivo’s latest addition to the V series of mid-range smartphones – the vivo V70. It’s quite a big change compared to the previous generation in terms of the design, but what about all the other aspects of the phone?

Design

Okay, let’s first talk about the design since this is the biggest difference compared to the previous generation. It now has a flat screen with a flat back, and even a flat frame too. The edges and corners are rounded, of course.

Even the camera bump is now in a different design. It’s a rounded square, juts out from the phone. Again, a departure from the previous generation’s design.

We have the vivo V70 in the golden hour color variant – and it is indeed having some lines with varying gold hues – and it does look amazing. This back panel also has a matte finish that I can feel with my fingertips too.

Screen

Now, let’s talk about the screen. It’s not a flat screen, so no more curved edges like the vivo V50 or V60, and it is a 6.59-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2750×1260 pixels and goes up to 120Hz refresh rate. I’m actually quite glad that vivo is moving beyond 1080p, which means this screen has a rather high PPI value of 459.

In terms of the screen’s brightness, I think there’s a brightness bug here. The maximum auto brightness that I can get from this phone is only 553 nits, whereby the minimum brightness is at around 2 nits.

Now, there are a total of 3 different color profiles to choose from as usual, and we start off with the default Natural color profile. It can already cover around nearly 100% for both sRGB and DCI-P3 color gamuts, while maintaining a superbly low ΔE number across the board.

Switching over to the Professional color profile, the DCI-P3 color gamut coverage drops to around 71% only. This means that the colors are not as saturated – and that’s about it. The ΔE number here is also very low, so it truly boils down to your preference. Do you like a more vivid color or not?

Finally, we have the Bright color profile. This one cranks up both the sRGB and DCI-P3 color gamut coverage to 100%, while also bumping up the Adobe RGB coverage to around 92% too. Even the ΔE number remains low. But then again, it truly depends on your preference on what kind of color saturation you want.

Performance

As for the performance, the vivo V70 is equipped with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 – which is Qualcomm’s highest-end option within the Snapdragon 7 series of chipsets. And… this chipset is not going to perform that well in games.

We tried Genshin Impact at the lowest graphical settings at first, and the frame rate is just not that good. It does fluctuate up and down, and it can’t even reach 60fps most of the time. This is truly disappointing, honestly.

We then moved on to Zenless Zone Zero. At the lowest graphical settings once again, it can’t even maintain 30fps. For an action game like this, having low frame rate and fluctuating frame rate is just very distracting. The gameplay is not enjoyable, so to speak.

Wuthering Waves is actually even worse. The new area is notoriously bad in terms of optimization already – and combined with the weak Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, I’d just say it’s better to give up playing Wuthering Waves on this phone entirely.

If we’re playing some lighter titles though, then it’s going to perform just fine. Overall, I’m just disappointed that the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 is so disappointing. We also tested Where Winds Meet as well, which is a pretty well-optimized game but the way they optimize is by culling out many things in view so save on resources. It’s technically a way of optimization but it does affect the visual immersion of the game.

You can also watch our full gaming test video here to know more about the wattage, temperature, and frame rate data – all of those things.

If we’re not gaming, then the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 works just fine.

Battery life

The battery life is something that we have to talk about too. The vivo V70 comes with a 6,500mAh battery – but I have no idea what’s the Wh value. Using our standardized battery life test, the vivo V70 can reach around 25 hours and 15 minutes and that’s actually quite good.

Charging speed

As for the charging speed, the vivo V70 comes with a 90W charger and it can charge from 15% to completion in nearly an hour. That’s to be expected.

Then, when we head into the settings menu and enable the fastest charging speed possible, the vivo V70 can charge from 15% to completion in slightly more than 40 minutes. That’s a big improvement.

Finally, using our USB-PD PPS charger, the vivo V70 can charge from 15% to completion in slightly less than 50 minutes. Not that far off from the proprietary charger’s speed – and that’s actually really good. That just means we can use whatever other charger we have and it’ll still charge this phone quickly.

Software

Now, let’s also talk about the software. The vivo V70 comes with the latest OriginOS 6 on top of Android 16, and it’s similar to what we’ve seen before. We still have ads and bloatware that we’ll have to remote or delete or disable, but the skin itself is very smooth to navigate around.

Unfortunately, the flip card animation wallpaper is not available on the vivo V70.

Camera

Now, let’s talk about the cameras. The vivo V70 comes with a triple camera setup – and they’re all housed within this camera bump now. I think this looks better than having one camera outside of the camera bump like the last generation vivo V60. However, the camera hardware is – as far as I know – identical to the previous generation.

A few more things to mention

So, here are a few more things to mention – the vivo V70 has a USB 2 port at the bottom, and there are also two SIM card slots as well. At the top, we do have an IR blaster as well.

Should you buy the vivo V70?

So, should you buy the vivo V70? There is a tiny price hike over the previous generations and in many ways, the vivo V70 is similarto its predecessor. The big upgrade here, in my opinion, is that flat front and flat back design.
