MOBILITY startup Voltai, the innovation arm of Aboitiz Power Corp. (AboitizPower), said Tuesday that it planned to open 1,000 motorcycle battery-swapping stations starting 2027 through the firm’s 1882 Energy Ventures.
"Our current network density is already sufficient to cover our targets for the next year or so. We’ll probably see more network expansion by next year,” Voltai co-founder and Chief Product Officer Nico Policarpio said.
“Our current priority is first to saturate Metro Manila and then go up to the north and south of it. In the long term, we also plan to expand into Cebu and Davao as well," he added.
The Voltai ecosystem covers two-wheel electric vehicles (EVs), battery-swapping stations, management software for fleet operators, a mobile app for riders and after-sales support service.
Maximizing its two battery capacities, a two-watt Voltai motorcycle can travel up to 140 kilometers, with maximum speed of around 80 kilometers per hour and a carrying capacity of 200 kilograms.
Units can be leased for a fixed fee and are intended for logistics, food and beverage delivery and ride hailing companies.
Since its launch in October last year, Voltai has opened 15 battery-swapping stations at Cleanfuel gasoline stations across Metro Manila.
