European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called for regime change in Iran in a post on X.

The post appears to signal a shift in the European Commission's position on Iran, the first time the EU's executive body has explicitly backed regime change in Tehran.

"The risk of further escalation is real. This is why a credible transition in Iran is urgently needed," von der Leyen wrote. She added that such a transition would pave the way for a lasting solution and reflect the "democratic aspirations of the brave people of Iran."
