JOHOR BAHRU, July 11 —Voter turnout in the 16th Johor state election reached 26.43 per cent as of 11 am today, surpassing the figure recorded at the same time in the previous state election.
Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said about 709,000 voters had cast their ballots by 11 am.
He said voter turnout at the same point during the 2022 Johor state election stood at only about 21 per cent, reflecting a marked improvement this time.
“We hope this momentum will continue throughout the day so that as many registered voters as possible come out to cast their ballots,” he told reporters after inspecting the polling centre at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bandar Uda Utama in the Perling constituency here today.
Ramlan said rain in several areas, including Muar, Kluang and Johor Bahru, could dampen voter turnout later in the day. — Bernama
