KUALA LUMPUR - Ahead of Saturday’s 16th Johor state election, a massive influx of over 300,000 voters is expected to hit the roads, triggering heavy congestion across major highways, particularly those leading into Johor.
In light of the anticipated surge, Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) Chairman Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad issued a statement today strongly advising travelers to plan their journeys meticulously to avoid severe bottlenecks on the state’s primary access routes.
To facilitate a smoother and safer exodus, all non-emergency highway lane closures will be temporarily suspended on polling day.
In his statement, Hasni provided critical directives for motorists navigating the peak travel window.
"LLM also urged motorists to use the TuJu app to plan their travels, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, and maintain sufficient balances in their Touch 'n Go accounts, e-wallets and debit cards."
Furthermore, he highlighted a key area of caution for those heading north, noting that "motorists are also advised to adhere to speed limits and drive carefully through the third-lane construction zone on the northbound North-South Expressway between Simpang Renggam and Senai."
To maximize traffic flow, the LLM chairman urged highway users to strictly comply with instructions during smart lane activations and to utilize designated rest and service areas (R&R) or lay-bys for necessary breaks.
