VP Duterte lauds Army's 79th Infantry Battalion

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte on Saturday commended the army's 79th Infantry Battalion (IB).

Last Sunday, 19 alleged members of the New People's Army (NPA), including Arnel Tapang who was reportedly a wanted NPA leader, were killed in an encounter with the 79th IB in Barangay (village) Salamanca, Toboso, Negros Occidental.

"On behalf of the Office of the Vice President, I extend my commendation to the brave men and women of the 79th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army under Lt. Col. Eric Alfonso for your recent successful combat operation", Duterte said in a statement.

"Your courage, discipline, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding our communities are worthy of the highest respect. This achievement reflects not only your operational excellence but also your dedication to upholding peace, security, and the rule of law", she said.
