MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte has no plans to resign from office despite speculations that she could step down and seek the presidency in 2028, her defense counsel Michael Wesley Poa said Wednesday.
“I think I can answer that categorically,” Poa told reporters during the post trial briefing, when asked whether resignation was being considered by Duterte.
Poa said he and Duterte are not discussing resignation, although he acknowledged that, as her lawyers, they had considered it long ago as one of the possible options.
“The Vice President has no plans of resigning as I speak now,” Poa said, adding that Duterte has always considered the 32 million people who voted for her.
