Former Newcastle star Chris Waddle says they must push for a top four finish this season.
Waddle insists Newcastle must bounce back after their Champions League elimination last night.
He told BBC Radio: "Newcastle didn't have a lot in the tank. The way they play is very demanding and the next game against Fulham will play the same, they will give it everything they have got, it is a high tempo game.
"You saw in the second half when Milan went forward and even a bit in midfield, they had time to pick a pass and move the ball. Newcastle in the first half didn't allow them to do that, they stopped the ball.
"They have given it a really good go, in a really difficult group.
"They have learnt a lot. Now they are in the cup spot domestically, they have to push for that fourth sport to make sure they get in next year."
