SHAH ALAM – Renowned preacher Ustaz Wadi Annuar has called for an end to the broadcast of dramas alleged to normalise same-sex relationships.
He said such content is feared to influence the mindset of future generations, leading them to view matters forbidden in Islam as commonplace.
"Stop broadcasting dramas that normalise same-sex relationships.
"Do not poison the minds of future generations to the extent that what Allah has forbidden is seen as normal," he said in a post on Threads on Wednesday.
Previously, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli emphasised that his office rejects the airing of the drama Madu atau Racun, which was alleged to have caused anxiety and controversy among the public.
He stressed that his office deeply regrets the inclusion of elements touching on religious sensitivities and local cultural norms, whether explicit or implicit.
Zulkifli added that Islamic teachings always prioritise the preservation of the sanctity of the family institution and religious etiquette, whereas the depiction of a same-sex lifestyle is entirely contrary to these values.
Following this, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum (CMCF), alongside the National Film Development Corporation (Finas), will hold a meeting with the production team and streaming platform iQIYI to obtain a comprehensive explanation regarding the drama's content, which has sparked public anxiety and controversy.
Fahmi, who is also the spokesperson for the Madani Government, said the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) is also expected to take part in the meeting.
