KUCHING (May 11): The state government must continue to streamline the public service delivery system and government procurement system to be more efficient in realising Sarawak’s vision and policies, said Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

The Head of State said good, efficient and systematic governance was a solid foundation in ensuring the effectiveness of the implementation of state policies and development.

“In a world driven by digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI), existing laws, regulations and procedures also need to be evaluated and modified to support current development needs.

“The commitment of civil servants at all levels in ensuring that all government policies and initiatives can be implemented effectively and perfectly is the key to the success of the state’s development agenda,” he said when opening the first meeting of the fifth term of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Monday.

Wan Junaidi called on all state civil servants to uphold a high sense of responsibility, be proactive in taking action and have a sense of urgency and ownership toward ensuring that the government’s development agenda can be implemented according to plan and achieve the targets.

He said when carrying out these responsibilities, the values of integrity, trust and professionalism must be upheld among all parties involved in state development.

“This serves to ensure that every government policy and initiative can be implemented effectively and professionally,” he said.

Wan Junaidi also urged members of the august House to always maintain the “sanctity and dignity” of the DUN.

Wan Junaidi said the elected representatives must debate maturely, responsibly and use good and polite words when expressing their views.

“As leaders, we must set good examples and role models for the community, especially the younger generation who always observe the behaviour and speech of leaders.”

He also called on all lawmakers to remain close to the people to understand their real needs so that the government can receive accurate feedback to ensure that every policy and development implemented truly benefits the people.

“Let’s continue our efforts to develop Sarawak as a region that is developed, prosperous, peaceful and respected, without neglecting the values of unity, harmony, morality and high morals,” he said.

Stressing that the well-being of the people must be prioritised, he looked forward to Sarawak continuing to be blessed with peace, stability and prosperity for the well-being of today’s and future generations.

Wan Junaidi also extended his festive greetings: “I would like to wish Selamat Hari Raya Aidiladha to all Muslims and Selamat Hari Gawai to the Dayak community in Sarawak.”
