The Narnaul CIA unit of the Mahendragarh district police arrested a wanted criminal, Sanjay Kalba, following a late-night armed encounter. Acting under the directions of SP Deepak, the police also apprehended two of Sanjay’s accomplices, identified as Ghanshyam from Gopalpura in Rajasthan, and Aditya from Akbarpur.
A police spokesperson said that the operation resulted in the seizure of illegal weapons and reportedly averted a major criminal incident being planned by those arrested. The operation was initiated last night after the CIA team received a tip-off.
The information suggested that Sanjay, who was wanted in a case of murder in the Nangal Chaudhary area, was roaming with his accomplices in a vehicle. Following the lead, the CIA in-charge constituted two special teams and set up checkpoints near the Rewari Road flyover and on other strategic points.
“The encounter began around 11.25 pm as a high-speed vehicle approached the blockade. On being signalled to stop, the driver attempted to hit the police personnel and sped away toward Narnaul city,” said the spokesperson.
A chase ensued, during which the suspects repeatedly tried to hit the police vehicle near the Neerpur bus stand before driving into the forest terrain.
The situation escalated when the suspects were intercepted. Upon being cornered, three men exited the vehicle and opened fire on the police.
“After initial warnings and retaliatory warning shots, the police team also fired in self-defence. During this exchange, Sanjay sustained a gunshot wound on his right leg. Taking advantage of the moment, the police team overpowered him and the other two suspects, Ghanshyam and Aditya,” he stated.
A subsequent search led to the seizure of a pistol, a magazine, and two live cartridges from Sanjay, while a ‘doga’ (short-barrel gun) and seven cartridges were seized from the possession of his accomplices and from their vehicle.
Sanjay was taken to the Civil Hospital in Narnaul for treatment under police custody.
Investigations into Sanjay’s background revealed a long criminal history, with 13 serious cases registered against him at various police stations across Haryana and Rajasthan.
The charges against him include attempt to murder, assault, intimidation and violations of the Arms Act. The Scene of Crime team has collected evidence from the spot, and a fresh case has been registered against the trio for attacking police personnel and obstructing government servants from performing their duty.
A detailed interrogation is currently underway to uncover further links and plans of the arrested persons.
